Dr. Paul Henderson
Chief Investigator
Dr. Henderson is a paediatric gastroenterologist and honorary senior clinical lecturer at the University of Edinburgh. As the current co-lead for Paediatric Inflammatory Disease services he brings an incredible array of knowledge to this project.
Following the completion of the PINPOINT project, that examined the number of cases and characteristics of paediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in the UK, as well as created a group of over 1000 paediatric IBD patients who can be followed up long term for research, he now aims to address the management and challenges of fatigue, in children and young people diagnosed with Crohn’s and Colitis.
Professor David Wilson
Co-Investigator
Professor David Wilson is a leading clinician and researcher in paediatric gastroenterology and nutrition at the University of Edinburgh. He specialises in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and his work focuses on understanding how these conditions develop, improving treatments, and enhancing long-term outcomes for patients.
He has over 25 years of experience leading clinical services and research programmes, including large national studies on paediatric IBD across Scotland. Professor Wilson has played a key role in developing guidelines for the diagnosis and management of IBD in children and collaborates with international research networks to advance care and treatment.
Alongside his research, he is committed to improving patient care and supporting the next generation of clinicians and researchers working in children’s digestive health.
Professor Gwo-Tzer Ho
Co-Investigator
Professor Gwo-Tzer's research is all about turning new scientific discoveries about our immune and inflammatory systems into treatments for inflammatory bowel disorders. He brings a fresh perspective and innovative ideas to our team, helping us push the boundaries.
Professor Sinead Rhodes
Co-Investigator
Professor Sinéad Rhodes is a developmental psychologist who conducts research with children and young people with neurodevelopmental conditions, whether diagnosed or not. She is particularly interested in understanding and supporting cognition, social relationships, learning. and mental health in these conditions.
Sinéad extensively involves children and young people, their parents, teachers and clinicians in the areas of research she prioritises, research practices, and how she engages the public with research findings. She has translated her research findings into accessible services and resources co-produced with those with lived experience.
Michelle Wilson
Research Associate
Michelle leads the qualitative part of the PINPOINT-Fatigue study, as well as Patient and Public Involvement, and was recently bestowed the Excellence in Public Engagement award. She is an integral part of the research team and is the main point of contact for our patients, collecting data and experiences directly from them. Michelle also shares exciting IBD research and ensures patients feel engaged and empowered throughout the research process.
Arshiya Merchant
Research Assistant
Arshiya organizes the research logistics, including helping study set-up, contacting participants, and scheduling team meetings. She helps the research team to gather results and keep all relevant information up to date.
